چکیده

Abstract The objective of this work was to select sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) genotypes with leaves potential be used for human consumption. Twenty-six experimental and four commercial cultivars were tested in a randomized complete block design three replicates ten plants per plot. trial carried out the municipality Lavras, state Minas Gerais, Brazil. Leaf shape lobe, aerial-part yield, edible-leaf percentage, dry mass, latex production, as well leaf total chlorophyll, pH, soluble solids contents, titratable acidity, phenolic compounds, anthocyanin evaluated. Roots characterized their pulp peel colors. Fifteen presented highest (29.6 51.8 Mg ha-1) edible (7.8 12.7 yields. In biochemical analysis, high contents phenolics, anthocyanins observed. addition, solids, acidity did not differ significantly among evaluated genotypes. Leaves are recommended

Consumption of purple sweet potato leaves decreases lipid peroxidation and DNA damage in humans.

Consumption of polyphenols is associated with reduced risk of chronic diseases, possibly via a variety of bio-mechanisms, including antioxidation and anti-inflammation. Purple sweet potato leaves (PSPL) commonly consumed in Asia possess polyphenols. In this study, we aim to investigate antioxidant effect of 200 g/d PSPL containing 902 mg polyphenols in a clinical trial. This randomized, crossov...

The sweet potato IbMYB1 gene as a potential visible marker for sweet potato intragenic vector system.

MYB transcription factors play important roles in transcriptional regulation of many secondary metabolites including anthocyanins. We cloned the R2R3-MYB type IbMYB1 complementary DNAs from the purple-fleshed sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L. cv Sinzami) and investigated the expression patterns of IbMYB1 gene with IbMYB1a and IbMYB1b splice variants in leaf and root tissues of various sweet pota...

Detection of sweet potato virus C, sweet potato virus 2 and sweet potato feathery mottle virus in Portugal.

Field sweet potato plants showing virus-like symptoms, as stunting, leaf distortion, mosaic and chlorosis, were collected in southwest Portugal and tested for the presence of four potyviruses, sweet potato virus C (SPVC), sweet potato virus 2 (SPV2), sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV), sweet potato virus G (SPVG), and the crinivirus sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (SPCSV). DsRNA frac...

Ensiling of Sweet Potato Leaves (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) and the Nutritive Value of Sweet Potato Leaf Silage for Growing Pigs

The effect of adding carbohydrate-rich feedstuffs to sweet potato leaves (SPL) on silage quality was studied using a total of 180 laboratory silos. Silage quality was assessed by changes of pH, dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N). Pre-wilted SPL was mixed with cassava root meal (CRM), sweet potato root meal (SPM) or sugar cane molasses (Mo) at levels of 0, 30, 60 an...
